Continuing to increase the percentage of Welsh Speakers in the outdoor sector.
Do you live in Eryri, speak Welsh and want a career in Outdoor Adventure? Perhaps Menter Iaith Conwy can assist.
Over the last 10 years Menter Iaith Conwy has implemented an outdoor instructor scheme, with the aim of increasing the number of Welsh speakers working as instructors in the industry. Over 300 individuals were supported to attain various outdoor adventure qualifications. Through the work of Menter Iaith Conwy and the Outdoor Partnership, the percentage of Welsh speakers working in the industry has increased from 5% in 2003 to 28% in 2015.
“There is a long way to go yet!” said Bedwyr ap Gwyn, the co-ordinator of the project.
“The Menter Iaith has successfully received funding from Snowdonia National Park’s Sustainable Development Fund to further support local Welsh speakers in developing their qualifications to work in the outdoor industry.”
“This grant is available for individuals wishing to achieve higher level qualifications, with the intention of increasing the capacity of the Welsh language within the industry, and in the long run create instructors who can teach and coach the next generation of instructors through the medium of Welsh.”
The grant, for up to 50% of the cost of the course, is available now.
Bedwyr added “We will be launching the new scheme with 2 adventure days for the family at Ganolfan Nant Bwlch y Hearn on the 31 of July and the 1 of August. We hope to get instructor of the future interested early on”.
