With a month to go until the festivities kick off, Cardiff’s Welsh arts & culture festival, Tafwyl, has unveiled its full festival programme.

A fabulous feast of music, literature, food & drink, Welsh learners sessions and children’s events will take place all over the capital over the course of eight days.

June 25 sees the beginning of a week long fringe festival with 40 events held in venues across Cardiff including Yr Hen Lyfrgell, Roath Park, Chapter, Canna Deli and many more.

Following the fringe festival, Tafwyl’s main event will take over the stunning grounds of Cardiff Castle on July 2 & 3 with a dazzling array of some of the biggest names in Welsh arts, culture & sports. Entry to Cardiff Castle and the festival is free during the event and there’s a warm welcome to all, especially those who have had little experience of the language.

An eclectic mix of bands and artists playing across three stages are sure to appeal to a wide audience. Maffia Mr Huws, Y Niwl, Band Pres Llareggub, Sŵnami and Candelas are amongst the bands taking to the Main Stage. Over on the acoustic stage, Meic Stevens, Alys Williams, Colorama, Plu, Al Lewis and Huw M will be amongst the talent from across Wales.

The country’s finest food & drink will be well represented with cookery demonstrations from top chef Bryn Williams, Padrig Jones and ‘The Classroom’. As well as cookery demos, there will be plenty of chance to try Wales’ finest tipples; including a wine tasting session with Pant Du, cocktail masterclass with Be at One Cocktail, and a gin tasting session with Dà Mhìle Distillery.

Tafwyl’s Street Food Area is a little food festival in itself with a huge range of food stalls including Bangkok Cafe, Grazing Shed, Meat & Greek and Vegetarian Food StudioMilgi will also be hosting a cocktail bar.

Other highlights include panel discussions with novelist Jon Gower, broadcaster Beti George, blogger Lowri Haf Cooke & Tafwyl’s Comedy Club with Wales’ funniest stand up comedians.

For the first time in Tafwyl, teenagers will have their own designated area and programme. Yurt T is a chill out area with plenty of fun activities and workshops including a glitter parlour specialising in festival makeovers, a travelling selfie booth, and Nofit State Fire Performers.

Event co-ordinator, Llinos Williams of Menter Caerdydd, said:

“This is the biggest and best programme we’ve put together in the last ten years.

We have a fantastic array of activities for all ages, showcasing the best of what Cardiff, and Wales has to offer.

There’s nowhere better to catch what’s best in the current Welsh scene, and to discover new bands and attractions.”
