Menter Iaith Sir y Fflint and Mentrau Iaith Cymru’s Eisteddfod Success
Menter Iaith Sir y Fflint and Mentrau Iaith Cymru’s Urdd Eisteddfod stall activities were a big hit all week.
The Eisteddfod’s youngest visitors were delighted to find a place to play at Magi Ann’s Summer House, as well as attending daily Magi Ann Parties and Story Time, as well as visits form S4C’s Cyw and Stwnsh characters. With everyone leaving with a smile on their faces having received a Magi Ann tattoo and activity book.
The most popular activity of the week proved to be the Panini football sticker swop sessions, with children and adults of all ages flocking to exchange stickers with new friends from all four corners of Wales. For many, this was the favourite attraction that the Eisteddfod had to offer!
A lively Q&A session was held with Welsh Language Commissioner Meri Huws, and two successful launches of a revised version of a booklet on the benefits of Welsh Education in Flintshire and two new Magi Ann apps.
Flint high Street and Mr Urdd’s Café were also decorated colourfully with banners created by local school children as part of Menter Iaith Sir y Fflint and Flint Town Council’s Flint Banners of Pride project.
Rhian Davies, Communications Officer for Menter Iaith Sir y Fflint said:
“It was an honour and a privilege to welcome everyone to our little corner of Wales for the Flintshire Urdd Eisteddfod 2016. We had amazing weather, the warmest of welcomes and a week to remember.
Thank you to everyone who helped on the stall during the week, and we hope that everyone has had a taste of the enthusiasm and passion that the people of Flintshire have towards the Welsh language.”
Mentrau Iaith Cymru and Menter Iaith Blaenau Gwent Torfaen a Mynwy will also be attending the National Eisteddfod of Wales in Abergavenny in August. Contact your local Menter Iaith to hear more about projects and schemes to promote the use of Welsh in your area.
